It ended up being a chilly night at Newsome Stadium on Monday, but  not due to the track being heated up with multiple outstanding  performances! The 2026 Newsome Preseason Classic hosted by Coach Orlando Greene and his staff was another example of how a meet should be organized, and it started off with a bang in the boys 3200 meter run. Jaxon Kiper of Strawberry Crest and Jonas Williams of Newsome locked pace for most of the 8 lap event, with Kiper using his 1:54 800m speed to close the race out with a 30 second final 200 for the win in a Crest school record time of 9:45.29.Williams found a new PR at the finish in his 9:49.88 clocking! Another athlete of note was Shakah Hall of our newest area HS school, Morgan. Hall blazed to a fine time of 50.62 in the 400m. And closing out the night of superlatives was Plant City’s Fabian Sosa in the boy’s 1600, with a solo effort in the 1600 that netted him a new personal record of 4:29.57-NICE JOB SOSA!!
