Durant’s Ward takes his first ever Cross Country win,Bunwat wins the gold and then heads off for the goals.
Trinity,Fl-On a cool morning in Trinity the youth movement ruled, led by 8th grdaer Malina Bunwat taking the girls title and Dominic Sadonis,Bunwat’s Angeline Academy teammate, and also an 8th grader, taking runner up honors in the Mitchell Invitational. But let’s not count out the old guys as senior Noah Ward of Durant prevailed to secure the boys title with a stellar time of 16:42.8 , a two second victory over the rising Archer Sadonis.
Girls Race
Bunwat, a regional qualifier in the FHSAA state series last spring during track season AS A 7TH GRADER ran away from the field for a 39 second win over Elin Jonsson of the McKeel Academy. Bunwat was unavaiable for a post race interview, she just happens to be a national caliber soccer player and was off to soccer practice before the dew dried up in Trinity! Taking 3rd was sophmore Ainsley McDonald of the Gaither Cowboys, with Ainsley giving it her all to finish out the 5K course in 21:55.
McKeel took the girl’s team title away from Angeline tallying a low score of 44-points, a 25 point advantage over runner up Angeline Academy.
Boys Race
On the boy’s side it was experience with the edge over youth as Senior Ward outkicks 8th grade phenom Sadonis 16:42 to 16:44. Aiden Stout joined his Durant teammate in the top three with a 3rd place finish and a solid 17:10 showing.
It was McKeel being led by freshman Aidan Alam that took home the boy’s team trophy, denying home team Mitchell the win on a morning that Coach Alan Parmenter and his staff and parents honored their seniors.
The up and comers, the JV races, saw Andrew McKnight of the McKeel Academy lead a sweep of the top 9 places, with Mitchell freshman Marcello Viscusi breaking up a McKeel sweep of the top 13 boys in the JV race.
On the girls side in the JV division, yet another McKeel runner took the top spot as Senior Mary Tilgham ran 24:08 for the win, followed by a very young duo from Northside Christian, Karsyn Galvin and Vaughn Bobbitt, a 7th and 6th grader, respectively.
